If you’ve missed our previous reviews of Sony’s innovative SLT cameras, here’s a brief explanation of how their design differs from that found inside a traditional DSLR: the latter type of camera incorporates a mirror which reflects light entering through the lens up into a prism, which then resolves the image in the optical viewfinder. The mirror has to swing out of the way when the photographer presses the shutter release, in order to allow the light to hit the imaging sensor instead and the image to be recorded.

The Sony Alpha 65 Body And Design

The Sony SLT-A65 is pretty identical comfort and ease to the A77 (and by expansion to the A55) but it has been a little bit ‘slimmed down’ in comparison to its higher-end brother. The A65’s all-plastic whole body spend seems very strong and check your hold is the same nicely dense rubberized as on the A77, although with its mineral magnesium whole body the A77 definitely seems like the more ‘serious’ camera.

Unlike some previously Leader DSLRs (and the still-current A850) the A65’s primary management factors are properly organized and drop quickly to side, and the dual-axis back LCD show creates structure from everywhere perspectives very simple in both still and movie ways. We’d have recommended a more traditional side-hinged show (or, better still, the additional stand-off offered by the A77 mark II additional hinge), but it’s not something that we predict anyone losing too much on the A65, not least because it provides identical flexibility to aggressive DSLRs like the Canon EOS 600D and Nikon D5200. The same is applicable to the shortage of a top-plate LCD – it’s an element that some people really appreciate but, in a camera like the A65 with its flexible EVF show, it seems more than ever like a hangover from the end of the movie era.
